Last day at camp

Here is the beautiful view from the deck of our camp site....

Today after a big breakfast and an even bigger tidy up this morning we are doing the last of our rotation activities for surviving well in the bush.

We have all had a go at making and using a slingshot, we have all done some archery and we have also made a bivouac in the bush and drunk hot Raro!

Here are some photos of us having fun...

Camp day two

This morning we have been playing lots of games in our activity groups to get to know each other really well. We really had to communicate well with each other to solve the team building games.

Here we are working together and cooperating....

Camp day one

Dear Parents,

We are having a wonderful time at camp. The girls are happy, they are eating well and we have all had a good nights sleep.

We had a lovely walk to Shakespear Park yesterday morning / early afternoon when the weather was good and then the girls had a great afternoon on the water slide and playing games.

After a dinner of Spaghetti Bolognese and fruit crumble the girls played cluedo with our camp instructors.

Here are some photos of us yesterday....

Who we Are - lines of inquiry

After much discussion and debate this morning we have finally decided on our three lines of inquiry.

  1.        Everyone is unique and needs to set different challenges for themselves.
  2.        Strengths and weaknesses can change in a new environment.
  3.        When you are in a different environment it will help you learn more about other people.
We thought these three statements fitted best with our central idea which was:
A change in environment can provide us with new experiences and challenges.

We also felt that these sentences helped us to inquiry more into the three concepts of this inquiry unit.  Change, Reflection and Causation.

New Unit of Inquiry - Who We Are

Who we Are is our final inquiry for the year.  It is based around our trip to camp that we will be experiencing next week from Wednesday 12th November to Friday 14th November.

The central idea for this unit is:
A Change in environment can provide us with new experiences and challenges.

In preparation for the PYP exhibition the girls will be doing next year in Year 6, I have challenged them to come up with their own lines of inquiry.  This is the list of statements we came up with as a class:

  • ·      Learning about ourselves helps us to interact with others.
  •
  • ·      People find different activities challenging because of their strengths and weaknesses.
  •
  • ·      When you are in a different environment it will help you to interact with people of different abilities.
  •
  • ·      People are not perfect but are unique in their own way.
  •
  • ·      Everyone is unique at different things.
  •
  • ·      Everyone is different and needs to set different challenges for themselves.
  •
  • ·      New experiences come with new challenges.
  •
  • ·      Strengths and weaknesses can change in a new environment.
  •
  • ·      When you are in a new environment you may be presented with difficult challenges and you will find you have to work together in a team to face them.
Tomorrow in our inquiry lesson we will choose three lines of inquiry that we think best fit our central idea and give us a chance to inquire into something.  We will keep you posted with what we come up with....
